About The Schmidt Table

Hi, I’m Angela.

I’m a longtime teacher, a home cook who loves a good glass of wine, and a mom to three girls who somehow still prefer my kitchen over any restaurant. Cooking has always been my way of taking care of people… and honestly, my way of staying grounded.

Some of my favorite memories are from the weeks I spent with my grandmother in Illinois. I would stay with her for long stretches, and we cooked together constantly. Simple meals. Familiar recipes. Standing side by side in her kitchen, learning without realizing I was learning. Those weeks shaped the way I cook more than anything else.

Life has been beautiful, messy, heartbreaking, and everything in between. After losing so much this past year, cooking became the one place I could still breathe. The rhythm of it felt familiar… like being back in my grandmother’s kitchen again. My girls told me to start sharing the recipes they grew up with, so here we are.

The Schmidt Table is where I keep the meals we actually eat… mostly simple, healthish food with room for comfort when it matters… along with the stories that shaped us and the quiet joy of gathering around the table.

A Seat at The Schmidt Table

Every now and then, I love making room for recipes from this community.

If you have a recipe that means something to you… one you learned from a grandmother, a parent, or someone special… I’d love for you to share it with me. I’ll feature your recipe here on the blog and give you a shoutout, because the best dishes are the ones with a story behind them.

This table has plenty of room.

Let’s Stay in Touch

If you’ve tried a recipe, have a question, or just want to say hello, I’d love to hear from you.
