Kentucky Bourbon BBQ Sauce (Sticky, Sweet, and Tangy)

A versatile Kentucky-style bourbon BBQ sauce that’s great on wings, ribs, pulled pork, or grilled chicken.

This is one of those recipes that's almost too easy.

A little bourbon, a little sweetness, a little tang... and suddenly you've got a homemade BBQ sauce that tastes like you spent way more time on it than you actually did.

I love brushing this on grilled chicken, but it's just as good on ribs, wings, burgers, or pulled pork. It has that classic smoky-sweet BBQ flavor with a Kentucky twist from the bourbon.

Make a batch ahead of time and keep it in the fridge... you'll find plenty of ways to use it.

Kentucky bourbon BBQ sauce served in a glass jar beside grilled chicken and a basting brush.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup ketchup

  • 1/3 cup bourbon

  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • Salt + pepper

Instructions

  1. Simmer bourbon 2 minutes.

  2. Stir in remaining ingredients; simmer 10–15 minutes until glossy.

  3. Cool; store refrigerated up to 1 week.

Kentucky Tip

Brush on during the last 5–10 minutes of grilling to prevent burning.
